Job Description:
AccuScribe Transcription Services, LLC is always seeking qualified independent contractor (IC) work-at-home medical transcriptionists (MTs) nationwide to assist us.
This is a contract-only position, which the IRS defines using the following criteria:
- The IC is considered self-employed, and is not an employee of AccuScribe. Federal guidelines stipulate that the IC will complete a W-9 tax form as a self-employed entity. If the state in which the IC lives requires that the self-employed IC provide the company with an EIN number, it is the IC’s responsibility to provide this number (i.e., Wisconsin requires an EIN number in lieu of a Social Security number).
- Neither withholding taxes nor social security or Medicare taxes are not withheld or paid on an independent contractor (IC).
- AccuScribe will provide the annual earnings statement in the form of a 1099 form each January. The IC is responsible for keeping track of and claiming your own taxes to the IRS. For more information on what is required of an IC, see the IRS web site for Forms and associated taxes for independent contractors
- An IC is paid by line count. Higher production equals more pay. Less production equals less pay. Working as an IC requires self discipline.
- AccuScribe does not supervise or control what the IC does or how the IC does the work. The IC is expected to be a professional, self-employed entity fulfilling contractual obligations to meet quality standards. Failure to meet contractual obligations will result in termination of the contract.
- The IC is contracted for a minimum line count each week and failure to meet this contractual requirement could result in contract termination.
- AccuScribe does not provide training to IC MTs. The professional IC MT should already be trained and experienced prior to contracting and specific qualifications must be met proving this level of expertise prior to a contract being offered.
- AccuScribe does not provide work tools or demand that work tools are purchased by ICs. Neither a foot pedal nor headset are required. If you prefer to use these items, we will recommend which items are compatible with our system. A link will be provided at the end of this document.
Please note that the guidelines stipulated above are mandated by the Federal Government IRS Division. AccuScribe must adhere to these guidelines by law. For a more detailed breakdown of what constitutes an independent contractor, please refer to http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=179111,00.html
Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of recent acute care and multi-specialty clinic transcription experience including teaching hospital and emergency department transcription.
- Graduate of an AHDI-approved or equivalent medical transcription school.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Experience with foreign dictators.
- The ability to produce a minimum of 1,100 lines per day consistently.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
- HIPAA regulations permit US and Canadian applicants only.
- Meet or exceed the Minimum Computer Requirements. Note: Windows Vista is compatible with our platform.
- Please do not register with Hotmail email accounts. These email accounts consistently block AccuScribe communications; however, Gmail or Yahoo accounts work fine.
- For our protection and yours, Errors and Omissions Liability Insurance is required. Refer to AHDI website http://www.ahdionline.org/ or homeowner's insurance policy (i.e., State Farm).
- IC must prequalify for position by completing and passing both a qualifying pretest and an open-book AHDI Book of Style test.
